2019 Vanuatu Missions Trip

GOD'S FAMILY!

The family of God is global and the missions trip from Brisbane to Vanuatu helps us appreciate our family around the world, especially those in need!

Yes, it's that time again when our intrepid Faith Christian School explorers travel to the Pacific in hopes of acting with love, compassion and spreading the Good News to our dear brothers and sisters in Vanuatu.

Here are some top stories from the trip

"THEY SHALL LIFT UP THEIR WINGS AS EAGLES" - Isaiah 40:31

On Saturday the 14th of September 2019 the plane carrying our Missions trip students lifted up its wings as Eagles flying smoothly to the airport in the capital of Vanuatu, Port Vila. Everyone was excited and looking forward to the next nine days in the Island paradise.

Upon arrival, the team was met by our dear friend and host Charlie, who guided us to his home village of Ephasik in the province of Pango.

DEUS EST VERITAS!

God is indeed truth, and His truth was made manifest in the amazing work the students did on His day, Sunday the 15th of September 2019. God really used the students today to shed his light to the world. Our team worked in small groups with the disabled children and their mothers in different villages.

The students that visited the hospital were challenged by the confronting realities of real-world, not 1st-world, issues they witnessed in hospital. However, the children they helped were so lively and God blessed their courage, to serve Him, so much that many of our students did not want to leave to go to lunch, asking to stay and hang out with the kids.

The Missions team also worshiped at Blacksand's Church and had a blessed and renewing time with the local church community.

DEFEND THE RIGHTS OF THE POOR & NEEDY! - Proverbs 31:8-9

On Monday the 16th of September 2019 the students helped relocate Jarissa’s family as the Landlord was evicting them on Wednesday, as well as requisitioning their possessions, and gifts from our last trip, as compensation for rent. Jarissa is a poor but delightful little girl that lost her leg earlier this year. Praise God for Jason’s negotiating skills with the Landlord. Now everyone can leave in peace.

The students helped demolish and transport Jarissa’s shack materials to their newland site near the local church. Now Jarissa’s family will be looked after and given pastoral care and receive the opportunity to go to church.

The Missions team are buying beds and many other much needed items we take for granted here in Australia. All have been blessed by such a servant heart experience!

"Today Jarissa was discharged from hospital. She has more surgery to go and life ahead with only one foot. Thanks for the help of Jinny Ruben, Jarisa now has a bed , a charcoal stove, a portable toilet, a pram and support from all those working at Vanuatu Society for People with Disability. The amputated leg is still an open wound and the other club foot is still there but needs more casting and LOTS of wound care. Her humble home now has lighting. Thanks Jason Caldwell." - Andy & Sharny Chapman

A WATERFALL BEGINS WITH A SINGLE DROP!

On Tuesday the 17th of September 2019 the day was packed full of visiting, praying, encouraging and working with several different school groups, performing songs and drama skits, as well as exploring art activities, and presenting object lessons.

The staff, leaders and students have demonstrated great team-work skills and have been very supportive with one another. Single acts of kindness and investment into these kids in Vanuatu, and alo our own missions students, can at times be enough to create magnificent future leaders in our community and society. God is blessing all our students and the wonderful kids in Vanuatu!

Towards the end of Tuesday the team  headed off to Emua.

IT'S NOT ALL HARD WORK, YOU KNOW!

Having reached Emua the Missions team had a well earned rest on the 18th. The students descended on the beach, went snorkelling and marvelled at the variety of fish and sea creatures in this island paradise. The weather stayed fine and the students really enjoyed hanging out at the beach in the afternoon. Everyone that goes on the Missions’s trip knows why its a tourist hotspot - so beautiful!

On the 19th the team visited two nearby villages and also enjoyed another day of snorkelling and soft sandy beaches. Later they all played games and sang songs with the community of Emua.

In the evening  the students delivered a rousing concert to a packed hall. It was fantastic! So many belly laughs and love in the hall! What a life changing experience for many!

"A little bit late, but last month we had a wonderful time in Vanuatu with Faith Christian School. We visited 3 different villages and even climbed a volcano (a first for me!) We got to spend time with the locals and learn their culture. The students performed lots of dramas and songs in their concert outreaches. It was a privilege to serve and love and see the joy and generosity in the villages." - Julie Adams

TO TRAVEL IS TO FILL ONE'S SOUL!

'Some once said if we travel simply to indulge ourselves we are missing some of the greatest lessons life has to offer!'

The Missions team has travelled to serve a greater goal than themselves. They travel to serve God and grow as people. Happily, along the way they are greeted by God’s breathtaking world!

On Friday the 20th of September the team travelled on boats to Nguna Island and hiked up Marou Mountain enjoying a lovely lunch, once they reached the top, with the beautiful villagers of Matos Village.

We are in paradise, at the top of the world, sharing and praying and eating good food with beautiful people. God is good!

THE JOURNEY ENDS BUT THE MEMORIES STAY!

Over the weekend the team praised God with the locals of Matoa, delivered another spectacular concert to the Blacksand’s church community, and celebrated Tori, Octavia, Miriam and Paul’s birthdays with the locals and their budding cake bakers, before heading back to Port Vila and the flight home.

The trip was once again amazing and life-changing! The students got to see how the rest of the world lives, serve those in need and enjoy God’s spectacular creation.

"Vanuatu! You stole my heart and changed my life. It was an honour and a privilege to serve alongside such an incredible group of people. You have all been such a blessing and encouragement to me. I am continually in awe of the way God works in so many lives. I was challenged in my faith, but hey that’s what builds us. I was touched by the hospitality and kindness of the locals as they welcomed us into their lives. We served in schools, churches and villages; had so much fun with the local kids; visited a hospital; saw God at work in the hearts and lives of others; witnessed miracles; climbed a volcano and snorkelled. A trip I’ll never forget. Thank you Vanuatu and Jason Caldwell!!!" - Sarah Aideen
